![]() Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to write this all. There were talks of people in the modding community reaching out to Microsoft to secure the Source code and everything was arranged, but Microsoft said they lost the source code and couldn't give it to them. The developers had a sequel in the works but it was cancelled after Microsoft shut down the game studio. The modding scene kept the game quite alive even after it reached End Of Life with Total conversion mods and mods which continued the storyline. Many people disliked it since it was just point your mouse to the ship's trajectory and shoot but isn't that what we do in all games? It wasn't slow or bulky at all like many of the simulation games. You could feel the dynamics of the ship and when matched with ships of better houses (mainly Rheinland in Singleplayer), you could feel the challenge. The part which no other game could capture for me was its combat. ![]() They weren't just tubes or capsules but proper designs which you would end up remembering for a long time. There was radio chatter here and there of traders and ships asking for docking, telling each other where they are headed, what they are trading, where they are going to Patrol etc.Įvery house ship design was unique as well. There were also different Houses in the game, like Liberty (Space America), Bretonia (Space UK), Rheinland (Space Germany) and Kusari (Space Japan) so if you jumped to another House, everything from the type of ships, the local police and military, the criminal factions etc would change.Īnd the space itself felt alive. You could tell each system was different from the other. Not the vibrant punch in your face saturated but it had its own feel. Every system in the game was unique and colorful. Basically black space combined with newtonian physics (a term which I never understood to this day). There a lot of space game fans who prefer these games being true to physics and real life. It just left an itch in me which no other game could satisfy after it. It didn't manage to sell enough copies in its time but I think the game was one of the most unique in the space genre games I have tried. r/CoOpGaming - A community for co-op gamingįreelancer was an open-world space combat and trading game with a storyline released in 2003. r/xboxone - Xbox-specific subreddit for general Xbox news and discussion r/playstation, /r/PS4 & /r/PS5 - PlayStation-specific subreddits for general PlayStation news and discussion r/pcgaming - PC gaming-specific subreddit for general PC gaming news, discussion and gaming tech support r/nintendo - Nintendo-specific subreddit for general Nintendo news and discussion r/shouldibuythisgame - Find out what's worth getting. r/gamingsuggestions - Go here to help you find your next game to play r/gaming4gamers - Discussion, bar the Hivemind Top-level comments must be at least 100 characters in length.Accounts must be at least one month old.External Links must follow these guidelines No topics that belong in other subreddits This subreddit shouldn't be used for advice of any kind.
